Thinking about ministry? What questions do you need to be asking?
I recommend Ron Edmondson’s recent article on this topic. It inspired me to write my own 5 tips:
A Bible challenge: Who said the famous words: “Save yourself”?
“Save yourself” sounds suspicious.
As Christians, we believe it’s Jesus who saves. Also, doesn’t the plea to “save yourself” seem overly self-centered?
If the phrase seems off-target, you may be surprised who said it.
Why do you follow God?
At foundation, the proper motivation is self-interest. Many don’t want to believe this. How do you convince them?
Keep asking “why?”
If there is an answer at all to the question of “why?” it must be a reason and it must be a reason for that person. If you can convince a person to keep asking why, he will keep getting closer to the inevitable answer of self-interest.
“To reshape the world in the image of your values.”
It’s a big goal. But it can be done, one person and one conversation at a time.
David Lieberman wrote a book called How to Change Anybody. It’s about helping other people become more moral, thoughtful, and accomplished.
What greater gifts could you give than these?
